PD courses online - Online School for Girls

For an interesting twist on professional development, try taking a course from the Online School for Girls between now and August. Courses fulfill in-service requirements for your employment while exposing you to what an online course looks and feels like as a student. Most participants are teachers at other all-girls schools in the U.S. I would suggest one of the following: · BLENDED LEARNING I: INTRODUCTION TO THEORY AND PRACTICE · BLENDED LEARNING II: REVERSE CLASSROOM AND ENHANCE INSTRUCTION · BRAIN BASED LEARNING FOR GIRLS · SINGLE GENDER EDUCATION: A COURSE FOR TEACHERS NEW TO GIRLS’ SCHOOLS I would love to have at least one teacher take one of the above, so we can present/summarize for the general faculty next fall. Please let me know if you are interested, first come first served as we have the $$! I’m going to take one but haven’t chosen yet!

Prezi presentations a success!

All sophomores delivered very professional-looking and engaging presentations in Susie’s religion classes using PREZI instead of PowerPoint. They learned the tool very quickly, collaborated on a single presentation both at school and at home, and creatively arranged their information with meaningful images and minimal text. They thoughtfully used the 3D space to stress important points and drill in to details. They embedded video too! It was nice to pump new life into the “reverse teaching” experience for them…. They had to research the material and “teach” the class about their topic. They acted more like teachers than speakers, there was a noticeable confidence in their delivery. Susie and I also noticed that students had an increased level of interest in watching each other’s presentations, and best of all, the presenters did not rely on reading text from bullet points. They presented BETTER as speakers using Prezi … and they shared with each other what they liked about each presen...

Sophomores present with PREZI

The sophomore class will create informational presentations for their religion classes using Prezi, a simple but fun 3D presentation tool. That neat video that Michael showed at our WASC meeting was made using Prezi and other tools. After next week, all sophomores will know how to use Prezi for projects, presentations and creative assignments. I would like juniors and seniors to have exposure to Prezi as well, and have had feedback from a college freshmen at USC that her professors like it. So if a presentation is part of your curriculum this semester, consider requiring Prezi instead of PowerPoint. The content and presentation requirements are the same for students, but Prezi has a more fluid and flexible look and feel. It also allows for an overview or “big picture” view that PowerPoint does not have.
