Electronic submission and grading

Art students wrote essays on Google Docs, then "shared" it with their teacher. They were able to include an image in the document of the piece of art they were describing, too. The teacher decided to use a "send message to collaborator" feature in Google Docs to send the student her feedback. She wanted to leave the essays clean and unmarked. She also cleverly added STARS to the files she graded, so she'd know at a glance which ones needed attention. Feedback from the teacher was very positive! She loves the paperless idea, and found it rather fun to grade it this way instead of simple paper.

Google Docs for administrative collaboration

I've offered teachers the option of using Google Docs to collaborate on their standards alignment tables. Hopefully many will come in to my workshop because not only is it a huge time-saver for the department chair, but it gives teachers a way to use this productively separately from their teaching. They can really learn the value of online collaboration without the stress of lesson planning!

Research and collaboration...

Our freshmen are so fearless and work so well together. A teacher went on a school trip and sent the lesson instructions to their email. The students were required to collaborate and research a topic for a group project and support their choice of topics with some information. Then the group had to email the teacher back with their research and choice of topics. NO PROBLEM! I gave them the option to use Google Docs and then simply share it with their teacher, most groups did just that. A few created a word doc and attached it or pasted it into the body of an email. They were 100% on task adn 100% of them completed the work. And the substitutes were pleased and relaxed, too!
