LMS has built-in assessment tool!

The new Assessment tools is now available to teachers as WhippleHill users. Here is a nice screencast video showing some improvements that will go live on Wednesday. http://screencast.com/t/0rpJIz8hie   Please consider trying this tool for formative assessment. The tool allows you to build a brief assessment that your students take from within their MyLouisville Assignment Center. You control when students can take it, how many tries, and whether or not they see their results. You edit/approve scores then click to move them easily to your grade book.

Assessment as start of class activity

Neat article, must read! http://www.nytimes.com/2013/11/21/education/frequent-tests-can-enhance-college-learning-study-finds.html?emc=eta1&_r=0 A few of our teachers are experimenting with start-of-class, formative assessment by using Google Forms, PollEverywhere, Vista (French/Spanish), Blogger, Quizlet, Discussion Boards, DropBox or now the built-in assessment tool in MyLouisville. One teacher has even setup a Topic page called DO NOW that changes each class meeting and the students know to sit down and get to work on the DO NOW. The key is using one of these online tools so that you get instant grading and an instant overall snapshot of student understanding and readiness to move on.
