Apollo 11 launch

Found this in the CUE magazine and it is superbly done by the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum. Users view photos/video and listen to actual commentaries from Houston as Apollo 11 is launched. I don't know if any of our teachers cover space exploration, but even if you don't here's a way to have them do something at home and do some creative assignment as it relates to your course. http://www.wechoosethemoon.org/

Museum Virtual Tours: Now on My Louisville

I created a list of some world museums on our Academics portal, bottom left of the page. http://my.louisvillehs.org These links are so amazing you will enjoy taking virtual trips yourself, and perhaps plan one or more for your class. If you have a favorite that is not on the list, email the link to me and I'll add it for you. Most include interactive features so you and students can browse, zoom, watch video, hear audio, see the physical layout of the museum, and study concepts from biology to color to history. Freshman teachers, here is a great way to put your students' laptops to work and cover material in an alternative way. Enjoy! This link page is amazing, it is designed for teachers to guide you how to use these online exhibits as lessons… Take a peek! Great way to use laptops in class, or for a homework assignment. http://mrssmoke.onsugar.com/Best-Online-Interactive-Museum-Exhibits-Students-2871369

QUIA quizzes and practice online

Quia is a collection of teacher-created "drill and practice" games that you can assign to your students, or create your own . There are also "quiz" formats that you can use to create online quizzes that grade automatically for you. Quia has activities and drills for every subject from anatomy to law to civics to exercise physiology to SAT skills. The idea is to create a "class" where you will put all the activities and quizzes for your students. These can be done in class or at home with any web browser. Each class automatically maintains a roster of registered students and a gradebook. Your students create one account and sign in to do the assigned work by one or several of their teachers. The work is "time stamped" so you know when they did it and how long they spent doing the activity. If you see potential for your class, a teacher account, it's about $50/year per teacher. I'll be happy to give you a guided tour upon request or demo in...

Shmoop: better than Spark Notes, and teacher friendly!

Here’s the link to Shmoop that some of us were discussing… Literature, Poetry, Civics, Biographies, US History, Shakespeare. And I’m also including all teachers on this email so you all can investigate this site for your teaching or your students’ use. Or for your love of reading! http://www.shmoop.com/ main site This project by Ph.D. and Masters students at Stanford, Harvard, UC Berkeley (and other top universities) is recognized as great quality stuff. It would be better to recommend or endorse this site instead of the other random stuff our students use doing a Google search for quotes, study guides, notes, summaries, etc. Those include Spark, Cliffs, PinkMonkey, GradeSaver, BookRags, GoodReads, (I did a search!) and, believe me, they use them all the time! And the way you quiz on reading, there is no way they will stop reading your books. There may also be books that you don’t have time to cover in their entirety, or they don’t have time to read, but that can still be introduced ...
